There are people in this world who seem to be ‘ordinary’ but who turn out to be extraordinary. They give their total attention. They listen and listen and listen without interrupting… We call them Samaritans.
Chad Varah, Samaritans founder
Welcome to ListenHull!
Hull Samaritans is celebrating our 60th anniversary throughout 2021. We are looking forward to a great year of fun and creativity and the opportunity to raise money for our branch and awareness of what we do.
What we do
Hull Samaritans is run entirely by volunteers and is part of a network of 201 Samaritan branches across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The Samaritans’ primary aim is to provide support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide. Our vision is that fewer people die by suicide.
One of our key events for 2021 is the publication of LISTEN.
LISTEN is an anthology of writing and art works that simply respond to the word 'listen' – through poems, paintings, photos, stories, songs, gardens and much more. This has now been published and is available to buy from our shop.

Thank you to Liv Dalee who designed the collage we are using on this site and to promote the project more widely, and to Michelle Young who designed our logo.
Liv has just completed her Foundation diploma in Art and Design at Wyke College and Michelle has recently graduated from Hull School of Art and Design.
Please visit Michelle’s website michelleyoungdesigns.com.
We wish them both the best of luck in their future careers.
